Article 1.01 - PRIVACY
It is the policy of the Canadian Police Association (CPA) to respect
and safeguard the privacy of our members. While the CPA does not engage in
activities of a commercial character, we are committed to protecting the
privacy and confidentiality of personal information in a manner that meets or
exceeds the requirements of Federal and Provincial privacy laws.
- Accountability
The CPA President is responsible, as Chief
Privacy Officer, for ensuring CPA's compliance to our privacy policy.
- Purpose
The CPA only collects personal information concerning
our members in order to distribute our magazines and bulletins regarding the
association and the activities we conduct on their behalf.
- Collection
The CPA collects personal information directly from
our members, or from our member police associations. We limit the personal
information we maintain on file about our members to names and addresses.
- Usage
CPA only uses personal information to mail CPA
publications. The CPA and our publisher, CBU Publications, retain BMR Direct
as our agents to provide secure and confidential mailings of CPA publications
to CPA members. BMR Direct specializes in mailing list treatment and has
signed a confidentiality agreement with CPA and CBU.
- Non-Disclosure
The CPA does not disclose personal information to
anyone. The CPA does not enter into any programs or services which require
disclosure of member information.
- Security
CPA uses appropriate safeguards and comprehensive
security controls that are appropriate to the sensitivity of personal
information. Each of our employees are responsible for maintaining the
confidentiality of all personal information to which they have access, and are
required to sign agreements to keep your personal information confidential.
CPA maintains strict procedures governing the handling and storage of personal
information.
- Access to Personal Information
We will respond promptly to any written request from
CPA members for access to their personal information.
- Accuracy of Information
Individuals may request that CPA delete or correct
any information we hold about them, and we will respond promptly to any written
request.
- Consent
CPA members have the right to withdraw consent to the
use of personal information by the CPA or to the disclosure of personal
information to the CPA by their member police association.
- Challenging Compliance
Individuals can address any challenge concerning our
compliance with this policy to our Chief Privacy Officer at the CPA Office.
