FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Canadian Police Association Congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney
Ottawa, ON – April 29, 2025
The Canadian Police Association (CPA) extends its sincere congratulations to Prime Minister Mark Carney on his election and the formation of a new government. We also want to acknowledge and thank all candidates from across the political spectrum who put their names forward in this federal election. Democracy depends on civic participation, and all those who stood for office have made a meaningful contribution to public life.
As the largest national law enforcement advocacy organization in Canada, representing over 60,000 front-line civilian and sworn members serving in communities from coast to coast to coast, the CPA looks forward to working collaboratively with all Members of Parliament in the upcoming 45th Parliament, both those returning to the House of Commons, and those newly elected yesterday.
Members of Parliament and police personnel share a deep commitment to public service and the safety and well-being of the communities we serve. We recognize the important role that elected officials play in shaping the policies and laws that impact public safety, and we are eager to engage in meaningful dialogue on our shared priorities.
Throughout the recent campaign, it was encouraging to see a strong, cross-party focus on issues that directly affect the safety of Canadians. Both the governing Liberal Party and the opposition Conservative Party expressed clear commitments to improving Canada’s bail system and taking concrete steps to address the threat posed by serious, repeat violent offenders. We welcome these commitments and stand ready to work constructively with all parties to ensure that these priorities are translated into strong, evidence-based policies that will have a real impact on the ground.
The CPA remains committed to ensuring that the voice of front-line policing professionals is heard at the federal level, and we will continue to advocate for practical and effective measures that support our members and contribute to safer communities across Canada.
